I have a stick myself. I wouldn't call it perfect but it does help a bit. You should contact Chris L. He sells little packs of Cr0.There's a thread about the stick you're talking about. Most people seem to say that the particles aren't all the same and that you may end up with something higher than 0.5 m.

If you are referring to the ".50 CrO" stick that Lee Valley sells then I concur, it is nowhere near the quality as ChrisL sells or that SRD sells or that HandAmerican sells...

I won't even think about using that for stropping anymore, but it is great for the buffing wheels for polishing restores...

If you are talking something different please post a link.....

Hey don't feel like the Lone Stranger there, there isn't one person on this forum that hasn't made at least one of those, if not more
Set it aside and use it when you start doing restores

I have a brick of that honing compound, and as it was said, it works well for restores. I've only restored a couple of razors, but I find using the compound on the little fabric wheel on the dremel works wonders at polishing up blades.

So don't think of it as a waste, but rather purchasing it for a purpose that you hadn't initially intended!

Some super-smart highly investigative mega resourseful person put up an entire writeup on the lee valley chromium oxide bars here:

This will answer all of your questions.
