    will the norton 4/8 K combo get your razor shave ready or do u need to finer grit?

    From what I have been going through I can tell you this.

    1k to set the bevel
    4k - 6k to sharpen (Check the bevel with a magic marker)
    8k - 32k to polish the sharp edge.

    The more polish the "sharper" the razor.

    This is my understanding. YMMV

    That's a great tool and in good hands can be all that you really need. That said, I like a little extra polish for the sharpest edge possible.

    A Norton 8K is more than adequate in my opinion.

    The tools I use the most are
    1K sandpaper to remove nicks
    4K norton to set (establish) the bevel
    8K norton to obtain a shaving edge
    0.5 chrome oxide pasted paddle strop for the final polishing and smoothing of the edge.
