    I've used my norton lapping stone on the two norton combos I have (200/1k 4k/8k) and even my BBW and Coticule.

    Thats exactly what I do. My harder hones always see the D8XX first (much faster).

    Yeah, having to flatten a flattening stone is completely idiotic to me. What are you supposed to flatten it with? A cinder block?

    OTOH, I have a DMT D8XX and D8C, and they are definitely my preferred tools for lapping. I also have a granite surface plate with 3M sandpaper, and I've had the same piece of paper for quite some time with it.... who knows?

    If you need something really aggressive and don't want to get a DMT D8XX, go to Lowes and get some of the really heavy duty sandpaper belts meant for a 3" wide belt sander. It's wide and you can cut it to whatever length you want. P80 works for me....

    I can't use automotive Wet/Dry sandpaper for too long. It wears out really quickly.
