Thanked: 121Source for HHT material
I recently posted about suggestions for alternative "hairlike" products, based on the fact that everyone in my family has extremely thin hair unsuitable for the HHT, and I was concerned that requesting cuttings from my barber might get me shunned in this small, Southern community.
Went to WalMart and wandered over to the women's hair products. There I found a display of human hair used by our distaff humans for extensions, weaves, etc. Found one pack labeled "9 inch, off black," which I would guess is Asian, and could see it was significantly thicker than the family cornsilk I'd been working with. Price was less than $7. There is so much product in this package that I will probably be able to pass it down the generations, along with the straights, hones, etc.
I've since tried it with most all my razors. Sure enough, HHT with this "standardized" hair has proven to have excellent correlation with the shave test, and I think it will save me hours of honing time.
Other experiences?

Thanked: 3795Was it real human hair? If so, that is just bizarre to find it in Walmart!
I guess I have one more reason to avoid the place.

Thanked: 1587Oh, I've tried everything... Dog, pubes, dog pubes, .....
I think you hit the most important thing on the head there - the relationship to the shave. HHT means nothing without relating it to the shave.

For me, the shave never fails to fail when the edge fails the HHT. And for someone like me with no hair on his head, 100% human hair never fails to predict.
Cost me a pretty penny, but a lifetime supply, unfortunately I cannot return it to the Hair Salon and take advantage of the less than $7 at Wall Mart…Gerrrrrr!
Oh well, someone will benefit from the info.
Very useful post, Thanks.
