So I am about to set out making a pasted strop, CrO on one side, CeO on the other, and I realise that may be redundant but I have both so why not?
The CrO seems quite straight forward according to the wiki, but looking at the thread on CeO in advanced honing this seems harder.
I was initially thinking of making a strop that is maple or oak or pine for the handle and base, then putting 1/8" balsa on both sides, lapping it and pasting it. Since it seems CeO works better with soap on linen, I am now lost. I am now thinking of putting balsa on both sides, then stretching a finer denim over it as a pasting surface. Will this work for the CrO as well? What kind of [cheap, easy-to-find] soap would people recommend for the CeO?
If possible, can I paste a balsa surface with CeO like CrO, or is it significantly better to use soap/linen?
One last question on the side, does the powder (CeO or CrO) ever come off? As in, if I toss my pasted strop onto a white shirt, or vice versa, will I end up with green/yellow all over it? Or will I end up with green/yellow dust lying around where I leave my strop?
