Alot of the things we do in the way of prep and razor care I think is based on something some ancient barber told someone who told someone else and I often wonder whether these things were ever practiced or are we having our chains pulled.

A case in point, a new razor no matter how expertly honed will never really shave well until its tasted flesh or beard or blood or what ever. So has anyone ever noticed when they get a new razor and I mean brand new, that only after its been used a few times it seems to shave better no matter how much it was originally honed out of the box.

Personally I've found this to be true with many razors but not all. So is this coincidence or is there some scientific reason for this if its true. Or is it a case of if you believe it will happen.
