    Lightbulb DMT Magnetic Honing Trick

I bought this 80th anniversary box of dmt hones from woodcraft (great clearance price) and the 8000 grit hone is held in the box by a large magnet. I let the blade sit on the magnet for a few seconds and it magnetized the blade a little bit.

When I go to hone the blade just sticks flat onto the metal surface of the dmt hones. It ensures light even pressure across the blade and really helps make the job a lot quicker and easier.

You honemeisters out there probably have no use for this, but I think it could definitely come in handy for us noobs.

Just FYI - Magnetized blades will attract the magnetized swarf to the edge of of the blade, where it cause some damage. They also tend to be attacted to the metal faucet over the basin when you're rinsing.

Google for "tool demagnetizer" if you want to demagnetize your blades. You should be able to pick one up at your local hardware store.

I used a Jog with Hard Drive magnets in it, arranged like the Bill Ellis Jig. Once the blade was restored it was magnetized and I had a really hard time getting an edge. Went to the hardware store and picked up a screw driver magnetizer/demagnetizer, and following the directions ran the blade through a groove on the block for demagnetizing and the razor honed up no problem.

    This place is great!

A blade I had picked up at a local antique store was magnetized. I decided to come on here and ask "how do I demagnetize my razor".

Look what I found, my answer already waiting for me.

    thank you
    nate
