    I had thought of that, and I probably will, but for now the carborundum is working pretty well. From what I understand it's grit is in the 12k range it's just a bit on the small side.

    Yes it is. When if first started out I had the Norton 4/8 and a Swaty. I used the Swaty as a finisher until I got a Shapton. I have a friend who uses the DMT 1200 along with the 8000 and he finishes on a Spyderco Ultra Fine. He says he likes it a lot. I never cared for the UF but apples and oranges. It works for him.
    Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
