The beauty of magnification.
Hey guys,
I just wanted to share how thrilled I am after this week of honing. I just purchased a little Micromaxx magnification device from Amazon and received it earlier in the week. The difference in honing when you're using a tool that makes you see that small in amazing. I will never hone without some from of magnification ever again. I looked at my Henckles 50 yesterday and I saw a lot of problems with the bevel that I couldn't see before. I had gotten the razor from someone on the web that was shave ready but I was never able to get a good shave from it. I thought it was due to the small size and light weight of the razor and I put it back in it's box and haven't really used it since.
You see, the bevel was very messed up when it was set and there for the shaves weren't good at all. The bevel looked like a wave of water, moving up and down up and down the whole length of the razor on both sides.
Yesterday I breadknifed the blade and then started it from scratch on my DMT-E moving to the norton 4/8k and then the naniwa 12K. I polished up the edge with a coticule and water pass and added some CrO for the heck of it. This is now my Best razor! The shave was out of this world. I would have never had been able to hone this razor to such a point without super human eyes. I strongly recommend anyone that is new at honing or wants to get into honing their razors they get one of these little things. They're GGGGGGGreeeeeat!
