I see I'm just a bit too late, I was going to post 'send it to glen' it's perfect for him.
Plus you would be joining the league of all these other guys who do just that and like them you can hang out your 'offering honing services' sign ;)
I hear those rumors but then when I try to pin it down it seems no one wants to say a name ? Just that they "heard" but can't confirm. What is that about ? Paying someone $20.00 to hone a razor and then charging $20.00 would seem to me to be a losing proposition.
No rumors, true story, of course I am not going to name names because that's not good for the forum and I believe in second chances.
But as you know not all razors require the same amount of work, so charging $20 for the easy ones and paying somebody $20 to do for you the ones you can't do, or require way too much work than you want to do for $20 is a rather smart for business. As long as you can find a sucker to do the hard ones so that you don't have to tell your customers the truth that you're just not as good as your prices may lead them to believe.
And yes, most of the good guys are willing to play the role of the sucker at least for a while and just help when help is needed.
Well I dunno about any of that I can make guesses and what not but its not productive. Just glad I am not the one doing it- I still don't even feel right honing my own blades! I send my prize finds to honemeisters cus I don't trust myself! No matter how well I do on other blades I always seem to think... what if I mess up and destroy this Goldedge? And thats what prevents me from hanging a sign lol. I'm **** scared I'll mess up a blade, or not be able to sharpen it.
