Ray, those are gorgeous Mappin & Webbs! The type you don't see up for sale too often, that's for sure.
Now I'm interested in the results.
Great set Ray. You should give the cold water shave a try on one of the days.
Methinks my friend Glen has mistakenly addressed a package to my friend RayG instead of my self GG.
You know it's not too late, the post office doesn't open until Tuesday, there is still time to reroute that box!!!!
I'm betting Ray may have a job telling 'em apart :p

Ok this thread is really cool! Big thanks to Ray and Glenn for this one. Keep us posted plleeeeaaaasssssssssse!:beer2:
All the above...
The CeOx on leather that Glen uses will make them
shave oh so fine and smooth. Since the last four
steps are the same I would be astounded if there was
a difference that a human could feel.
And BTW that is a fine looking blade and a set of four
makes my RAD itch almost as much as the description
of the set of hones Glen used makes my HAD itch.
Shapton system 1k-2k-4k-6k-8k-16k-30k Razor #4
Naniwa system 1k-3k-5k-8k-10k-12k Razor #1
Norton 1k-4k-8k then finished on an Extra Fine Coticule.. Razor #2
Norton 1k-4k-8k then finished on a hand picked Chinese stone.. Razor #3
Glen, you beat me to it. Well, here was the PM I sent to Glen a few minutes ago, with my take on our little shaving test:
Okay, I just finished shaving with the last razor. The suspense is killing me.
Here's what I think:
- I think #4 was sharpest by a hair. I can feel it actually start to dig in to my skin with the slightest pressure or change in angle. Razor #2 is very close, then #3 and #1 feel the same. My guess is that #4 was the Shapton 30k.
- Razor #2 was the smoothest, again by just a tiny margin, followed by #4. Again #3 and #1 are the same to me. I'd like to guess that #2 was off the coticule. I may be wrong since #1 and #3 feel the same and probably are both off the Nortons, in which case #2 would be off the Naniwas.
Anyway, all were really nice. For my personal preference, #2 was my favorite, followed by #4.
