New hone: Maruichi Kiita Maruka Nakayama
I wanted to share a few photos of an incredible hone I recently purchased from So @ japan-tool.com. The photos include the stone with the kanji before lapping and photos after the stone was lapped with the kanji removed. It was sad to see the beautiful markings removed, but the hone was purchased to be used as a final finisher. I find that if I come off a 12,000 grit Naniwa and use a heavy slurry, the edge degrades slightly. As the slurry is diluted, the edge will come back to the edge that came off the 12,000 grit and as I continue to dilute the slurry the edge improves noticeably. As a final finisher, the stone works best with a few drops of water and I continue honing until the stone is dry. If I do my job correctly, I do not find the need to finish with CrOx as I did before.
