Would you recommend trying this method on other finishing stones?
I guess you could,
The 30k is way up there, you are really taking things to the limit on it, anytime you start pushing the limits you look for ways to keep it all in control and this system seems to do that...
Other finishing stones are more forgiving IMHO, especially the Japanese Naturals which would be the only other stones that could get anywhere near the 30k level... (and that isn't proven)
I suppose the Films could get up there too, but I am not sure if anyone has messed with them enough to tell us...
Hmm, I may tried this on my Escher after the slurry stage and into the dilution step I use...
I played with the film equivalents of 30K and 60K for about a year and they were similar in results when using the Shapton 30K. I found that it was very easy to take the edge over with just 10 regular X strokes. When I went to between 5 and 7 strokes, not as many got over honed. When I started playing with the back honing after Don started messing with that, it helped as well. Glen's 3-2-1 is a very consistent method and works more than not. I have not tried it on the films yet.
The bad thing about using an Escher, Naniwa 12K, Shapton 16K and Japanese Naturals along with .5 diamond or CrOx is that you end up with really good shaving edges virtually all the time. It is still fun to try all the other stuff that comes up here.
Have fun,
