3-2-1 then Jnat
Just finished two razors with a variation of the 30k 3-2-1 finish Glen uses. What I did different is when I would have stopped with the Jnat and strop ready, I tried Glen's 30k 3 regular, 2 back 1 regular. Then did some very light finishing strokes on the jnat still wet with end slurry.
Stropping feedback felt almost immediatly like the razor was ready to shave. It was very smooth shave....

I have only tried it on a Engstrom frameback and a DD SE. Both came out very nice. I like how fast the edge comes alive under the strop. Much quicker. Thanks for sharing that method Glen.
Maybe the bigger bevels on the wedges have too much surface area for as quick a response?
I get my wedges the best just lettiing the slurry go almost dry on the jnats. They do take a lot more time for me to get right.

I was born and raised in NY, but have been in Naples my whole adult life. It is a wonderful place to live and raise family. So much natural beauty as our eastern edge is flanked by the pristine Big Cypress and the miles of snow white beaches to our west. Lots has changed in the past 25 years as far as development in between, but mostly for the good.
We should start a the most Southern Division of SRP?

Thanked: 13247For Sheffielders I go straight to the Coticule for finishing, seems a safe, comfortable path...
I might break out the Nakayama on my personal Bengal and see how I like that... Hmmmmm yeah I like that idea...

OK, I must have missed a post or something, what is this 3-2-1 technique? 3 regular X strokes, 2 back strokes, spine leading? Then 1 regular X stroke? Please clarify. I’m corn-fused. Normally I finish with water no slurry and very light strokes, then strop.

Thanked: 13247Going all the way back to the 2009 NC meet....
I was talking with Don from SRD about the 30k Shapton at the meet and he was saying that he was getting good results from backhoning...
So I started messing with it and developed the 3-2-1 as a finishing system that seems to give really consistent results across the board on that stone...
3 very light perfect normal strokes, followed by 2 very light Spine leading (back-hone) strokes, and finish with 1 perfect normal stroke...
This seems to eliminate the "taking it to far" possibility on this stone...
Try it see if it works for you...The advantage with this, is for multiple different razors... There is no advantage if you have 1-3 pet razors that you have down to a science...

Thanks G,
Do you back stroke the blade in the same X pattern only in reverse? Keeping the grain or scratch pattern the same?
