Thread: Touching up a "Lynn" honed razor!?

I think I speak for most of the forum members that have sent Lynn our razors for his midas touch in honing...what does one do when that perfect edge starts to fade? I can't afford to send Lynn my razors every few months for re-honing and right now I'm starting to feel the difference in my shave. I recently purchased a natural combo coticule/BBW and I've been trying to learn the art of honing on an old Clauss but have yet to get the practice blade shave ready. I'm hesitant to try to touch up my Wosti or Clauss USMC that Lynn honed for fear of making them worse.

Does anyone have a quick, simple touch up tip?

coticule with water, do 20 strokes and test. If it needs more, do another 20 strokes. Rinse and repeat

Do you know if Lynn sets the bevel with black tape and should I put tape on as well?

In general, Lynn does not use tape.

Im surprised Ron didnt mention it, but I will, have you thought about a barbers hone? 4-6 laps, strop and go.

Sure, I often mention barber's hones, but he said he had just bought a coticule so I figured that he intended to use that.

With the coticule for touch up, I usually do 20 to sometimes up to 50 strokes with just water. If it needs more than that, I'll do 20 to 50 strokes with slurry, followed by another 20 to 50 with water.
