Okay, I'm still a bit of a novice honer and could use some advice. I recently took a razor that wasn't shaving well through a bevel reset on a DMT-XF to a Naniwa 3K, a Naniwa 8K, a Coticule with water only and finished it on a Naniwa 12K. Not sure if the steps were excessive, but I was experimenting a little. As I mentioned, I'm still a bit of a novice, so I'm still sorting out how to get the most out of the least amount of work.
The edge I produced shaves pretty darn well, but it seems a bit harsh on my face. Not overly so. No knicks or weepers, just a razor bump or two and a little more sting from the after shave than usual. I notice upon close inspection that my bevel has a few scratches that are visible to the naked eye. It made me wonder, perhaps I progressed through my hones too rapidly? Or maybe I'm just being paranoid. Before taking it back to the Coti to try to take the scratches out, I thought I'd ask the forum how shiny is your bevel? Should there be no visible lines after the Coti or perhaps even the 8K?
I appreciate your input.
