Maybe you can try this:

Hi,
I for one am very happy with the results I get from Tilly's Gem and Lithide barber hones, which are both very small and handy. Another option would be a smaller Coticule, which also gives very good results....
Aside from the hones, did you ever think about taking a two sided paddle strop with one side pasted ? I assume that for travelling you'll start with a shave-ready razor and if you don't travel for months I would think that a pasted strop (plus the other, plain leather side) will keep the razor in good condition for a long time....
Just my 2 cents,

That's exactly what my minimum razor travel kit contains. One razor and one of Tony's paddle strops with one side pasted w/1.0 micron paste.

Or better yet, do yourself a favour and get a Shavette...

If I didn't have the Swaty I would carry the Lithide.
Though I'm not a paddle strop kind of guy when it comes to traveling I have a two sided paddle I got from John Crowley and it is just what the doctor ordered for traveling.
Actually I forgot about that one. I have that paddle strop for traveling (from John). Plain leather on one side and .5 micron paste on the other. But I will still take the Swaty with me also.
i don't think the pasted paddle strop thing is right for me. i'd rather carry something dry and simple, like a stone. call it personal preference. in fact, let me just say it here once and for all--i'm not ever going to use a pasted strop (not that i don't appreciated the suggestions). so far, the runner-up seems to be the swaty. is anyone bidding on that one on ebay? 'cause i'd lilke to get it .
also, what is a swaty exactly, and how does it differ from a lithide and a barbe hone?
They are both Barber Hones. I don't know for sure (newbie, someone else needs to step in here and give you more info) but my Swaty seems to be a finer grit than the lithide. It also seems to bring out a better edge, but that could be my technique (or lack of). Until I got the Swaty I used the Lithide for a finishing hone which is what Tilly described it as (came in her beginners kit).
Hope this helps there are a lot of choices in hones. For example, today I found out there is a stone you can use instead of a strop. Forgot the name of it, I was on the cell phone in a hardware store.
This is a bad picture they are lighter brown than this

I'm not sure what advantage the small hone would have over a pasted paddle strop for travel. I travel all the time, and always have a paddle (or loom) strop with me. The stone might be smaller, even within a bullet-proof carrier, but otherwise I see no real difference in use. Both are used without anything applied to the surface other than the razor. I must be missing something (besides my mind).

The Swaty and the Lithide are both Barber hones. Barber hones are simply a classification term used to describe a manmade hone of approx those dimensions. Barber hones are no longer made but when they were they were multitudes of different grits and names. None were rated by grit size.
The last big stash of hones from the American Hone Company in Monrovia Iowa was purchased By Anton and Diana Till a few years ago. She is known as Tilly and sells them on Ebay where she is known as Redtrader99.. She also has a website, www.redtrader99.com and her email is redtrader99@fastmail.fm. Contact her and tell her what you want. She is a really great person to deal with.
Make sure you specify what grade of hone you want, coarse, medium, fine or finishing.
Hope this helps.:)

Both have been used by some of our members here.
Hopefully they will post soon.
i already won a swaty on ebay. hopefully it will work well as a travel hone and a little more since i may be going on trips that last a couple of months at a time. also, i had some questions about the honing pyramid you gave me.
I stand to be corrected on the Swaty vs Lithide. Lithide is finer grit than the Swaty.Tilly set me str8.
