Escher stone method

Hello, I was able to buy a Thuringian stone, is a yellow green 7x1.5x3/4. I had couple of coticule,
I can put a nice edge on most of the razors I hone on coticule. Is there any standard method for using Escher/ Thuringians, to get the maximum from them? Is there a Dilucot/ Unicot method like on coticule? I usually set the bevel on DMT 1200, and from there I go with slurry on coticule,
sometimes, slurry on BB, and Dilucot on the full hollow razors, and Unicot on Wedge or near wedge.
I get a HHT 1-2 on Dilucot and 2 on Unicot before stroping.

I do not feel like searching for it, But I believe glen used an escher or thurinigan in his "one stone honing" video.

You could also try using it with just water on one of your coticule edges to see if it improves it.

My opinion is that a fine German water stone is at it's best when it is used at the very end of honing and it sounds like you are going to ask of it to also do the middle stone work. The coticule is very different as it is faster and more aggresive. The slower cutting German water stones IMHO is not suited for the same progression. I am not saying it can't be done, but just not the best way to use it.

Yes, I fully agree. A vintage Thuringian is (irrespective of price) a precious thing, and using it other than as a finisher in my opinion constitutes regrettable waste.

Thank you very much, I will never use my precious yellow stone for other than finishing. I went like you suggested from a coticule edge ,on just 20 strokes on water. I already have a popping hair HHT. The shave was really nice, crisper than coticule.

I too feel that these fine stones are best used for finishing exclusively.

Thuringians/eschers are such slow cutters that I can't imagine them being used as anything other than a finisher.

I use mine with the slurry stone it came with as directed in the literature on the reverse side of the lid, raising a 'thin slime' as per the instructions. I then do about 40 laps. This will subsequent to either an 8K Naniwa SS or a coticule.
