    Default First Honing Session

Last night I was using a new cloth strop and my J.A. Henkels 78 1/2 got a small chip in it and was scratching my leather strop. Don't know how. Well I then got a chance to use my stones for my first honing session. Norton 1k to set my bevel, Norton 4k/8k, and finishing with my naniwa 12k, diamond spray, 50 cloth strops and 75 leather. Didn't pass a HHT but it did shave like a dream, no irritation no weepers just a plain BBS shave. I just did a alot of reading on bevel setting and I believe I did set the bevel correctly. Straight shaving is very enjoyable but when you start honing yourself it is at a different level. The cool thing is that all the SRP members is a big part of my success from the knowledge here. Well off for more reading and learning.

Great report. Early success is demonstrably possible. Congratulations on the honing success and now you have proven for yourself at least the HHT is nearly irrelevant.

Congratulations! It took me a while to pick up honing, but I was too pig headed to get help until recently. Now I'm enjoying shaves on a razor I've honed myself.
