Thread: Norton 4000/8000 Best place to get one

I have been searching around looking for the best price on a Norton 4K/8K, the cheapest I've seen it is here for $69.99, I don't know how much shipping is though.

Also, what's the best place to buy a Belgian Yellow Whetstone?

I recommend Classicshaving.com for your Norton hone needs as you can buy other good shaving products at the same time and save on overall shipping. They are just a tad slow on shipping but they are a good company to begin a relationship with as they sell almost all of the needed items.

I agree classic shaving is the best place since they have such an excellent selection of all kinds of shaving gear at fair prices. As far as the yellow goes I got mine from Howard Schecter. I believe his site is theperfectedge.com. Sometimes the consistancy of those stones can vary quite a bit but his seem to be OK.

I think I'm might give the Vintage Blade a try, they have the cheapest price on the Nortons I've seen and $5.00 flat rate shipping, also have Taylor creams pretty cheap..

I have never bought anything from any of these places, but was searching for Norton Waterstones and came across these sites. I have no idea how much shipping is. It seems like if you have a use for stones in addition to 4000 and 8000 grit including a flattening plate, that there are some packages available at what seem to be a good prices.

I've said it before but here goes again <g>. There are lots of woodworking supplies, tool mongers, etc.. out there with bargain prices and low shipping. When all is said and done you may even save $5 to $10 on your Norton. BUT, will any of those places have a clue about our kind of honing, or straight razors or be able to help you with any other needs? No. People like Classic Shaving, Vintage Blades, Shaving Shop, etc.... (yes, even me) will spend our business and personal time on the phone or via e-mail telling you how to use that Norton (or razor, or strop, or brush, etc..) before you buy it and probably even tell you it's not the right tool for you if there is a better choice for your needs. Yes, it may or may cost a few dollars more from one of these guys but look at what extra value you get.

The funny part is even if you buy from the discount house, save a few $$ you can still come here and Jim (Vintage Blades), John (Shaving Shop), Will (Classic Shaving), me and a handfull of other vendors will be glad to tell you how to use what you bought from somewhere else. Lynn, Joe Chandler, Randy, El etc...will take time to tell or show you how to hone your razor when I am sure they would love to have that $20 in their pocket instead but helping newbies is still more important to them.

So, off the soap box now <g>. When you can, IF you can (and I do understand budgets) support the fellows here...family, the straight razor users and suppliers, when you can.

Okay, back to the workbench...........

Agreed, I need to find the best prices among the vendors here, That's why I said I was going to get one from Jim@ Vintage blades, the money I save there will allow me to put some additional funds towards a stop from you, and razors from the other guys here as well as other supplies.

It's all good, and I am sure you understand it pays to be a smart shopper, as specially when your a broke newbie with a new baby...

My "baby" is now 18 and in college but it seems they get even more expensive when they get older <g>. Enjoy your little one as that time goes by so quickly. In just a very few years that little tike will be a mature man or woman you can be proud of.
