    Default Applying Chromium Oxide

So I got some of the chromium oxide paste from Hand American along with one of their bench hones and now I'm wondering what is the correct method for applying the paste to the leather. Is there a method to it like rubbing it in, letting it sit, then wiping off the excess?

I find a light dusting immediately before stropping is a good application.

I got it in the paste form, so it's not very dusty.

I guess you mean in a syringe style tube. If you do, put a hundred teeny tiny dots all over the leather and work it around evenly with your finger. Best to do a bit less than a bit too much. You can always add more tomorrow, but cleaning extra off is a . Let it dry overnight and then you're good to go.

Ah! Thanks, I am a fool and applied some, then tried to run a razor over it and the blade was really sticky going across and I immediately figured that wasn't very safe (for me or the razor). So I stopped and hopped online to ask.

I'll let it sit over night then wipe off the excess and give it go tomorrow.

I'd usually mix it with strop dressing until I'd get something that's more like a liquid than a paste. I'd distribute it evenly, maybe adding a bit more strop dressing after the fact if it's too thick, let it sit for a day, re-apply, let it sit for another day and then use.

The last thing you want is a solid green color. That is to much. It would actually dull your razor. Sometime back Handamerican had some pics of what was the right amount to use and what the leather looked like afterward. It was remarkable that so little is needed. If you end up with a "blotchy" looking application then you doing just fine.

    Hope this helps,

Ain't no expert, but I put a few thumb or forefinger spots at even spaces along the leather then rub with my thumb until it is evenly spread. I find that it cannot be used until it has dried at least overnight. The next day I rub it in a bit more or use a rag to remove the excess and then it is ready for stropping.

I also got the paste from Keith, I made the mistake of applying too much and my strop was pretty green, I used a paper towel and managed to remove some, it still looks pretty green but is not solid like it was initially.

Seems to be working well as the razors get very sharp, I got carried away though..

I am replying to this because, well - I just have to commend you on what is hands down the coolest handle on SRP. Well done...!

    (P.S. I know, I know... totally ... Couldn't help myself!)
