Qhestion about HHT
Hi all, maybe the answer to this has been posted many times. But I want to know
When you hone a razor, when exactly the razor should pass the HHT?? after the 8k hone?? after the finishing stone??
The thing is that I have been able to pass the HHT only after th Crox and leather stropping. For some reason I have never been able to make a razor pass the HHT just after the finishing stone.
I was wandering if my razors could pass the HHT after the finishing stone maybe I could have a better edges after the CRox and leather strop

The real question is how does the razor shave your face?
-
If you have a fresh double-edge blade around, try HHT on it. Then realign your standards.

I've read some guys say they get it off the 1k. A good friend doesn't feel like he is 'there' unless it gets it at 8k. I can consistently get it after 8k + stropping on linen leather, sometimes leather only. Anyway, like Catrent said, the shaves the thing. HHT doesn't mean the shave is going to be smooth and close.

I have achieved the HHt only once on one of my razors. To be honest it didn't shave any better than my other razors. So, I don't even bother with it anymore.

Using my hair I can pop after 1k near everytime
Using the wife's hair it has to be after 8k and perfect stropping
What did we just learn about the HHT ?????
-
HHT is easy after DMT 325 :)
Really. Because at that point the edge is very 'toothy' and hairs will grab immediately.
I could usually pop hair easily after the 8K, but then after a coticule or nakayama finish, I couldn't anymore.

The HHT will work after 1K because the edge is toothy. I usually get good results after 8K because the edge is sharp.

As Mr. Glen notes, it all depends on the hair. I only use my wife's hair for the test and typically I do the test before stropping then after to see if I'm doing 'something right' when stropping. In other threads i've mentioned that I don't usually get the hair to pass the hht right off my stone, even my ozuku but once stropped properly every razor i've ever honed will pass the hht. It definitely doesn't equal shave ready but it can be used as a diagnostic procedure to see if your stropping is improving your edge.

I use the HHT to make sure I have honed properly along the entire blade and I use my hair (I have very thick hair) so I know that when it starts popping my hair it near ready for a strop and shave test.
