I am trying to hone a CV Heljestrand 5/8 razor and am having some trouble. I am using a Naniwa 1000 for bevel setting and a Norton 4/8 and a Naniwa 12K finisher.
the first one inch from the toe and the last one inch at the heel hone out fine. The middle of the blade will not get as sharp. When looking at the bevel through the 30X loupe, it is even at the toe and heel and thins out to almost nothing in the middle. This is all after 40 circles, and 40 X stokes on the 1000 grit stone. This tells me that the blade has a frown in the middle. When I put the blade on the back of my DMT it actually rocked on a high spot in the middle. Surprised me!
How do I fix all this? Should I bread knife the edge to make it perfectly flat? or should I just continue to grind away on the 1000? I'm Stumped.
Thanks for any help
John
