    Default Newb success story

So I've been doing touch ups on a Nani 12k for a few months with great results, and I now consider it my honing "training wheel" phase. But today, I dinged my new (to me) vintage Le Grelot that I JUST received from Badgister (thanks, btw, great razor!).

I pull out the loupe... Yep, I chipped it. Nothing huge, but I certainly couldn't shave with. I fall to my knees in despair. "NOOOOOOOOO!!!"

So I grab my Nani 3/8 combo. This is way too much for the 8k side. I've never used the 3k side, and I'm scared. I give myself a pep talk and dive in with a few X-strokes. No improvement to the chip. A few more. Nothing.

"Mother of God," I think to myself; I'm going to have to try to reset the bevel on this Grelot. Gulp.

So I Bust out the D8C and raise some slurry on the 3k side. After three sets of 40 circles... the new bevel is set, and the chips are gone! That wasn't so bad after all...

Rinse away slurry, proceed to 3/8 pyramid. Keep inspecting under loupe.

Looks good, feels good on my arm.

Strop: 30 linen/60 leather. HHT4. Wow. Dry test my sideburns. Feel nice.

Lather and shave...smooth and as comfy as any other shave I'd had recently. SUCCESS!

I still can't believe I just had a good shave off the 8k after my first bevel set. Tomorrow, I will finish on the 12k and CrOx. I am strutting around my house like I just won Super Bowl MVP or something. The family just doesn't understand. I had to tell you guys. I couldn't have done it without this place. The hours of reading and video watching paid off. Thank you SRP.
