Dual Grit Pocket Stone

Not sure if this should be posted here. Anyway I have been looking for a dual grit pocket stone for awhile now for my knives since I really don't like the idea of carrying multiple stones to sharpen a knife. I usually only use one stone to touch up my edges, but on the rare occasion that I need to do some heavier work on the edge I would like a stone with two grits. I was looking at the Fallkniven DC4 stone since the diamond side would make heavier work faster and the other side to finish the edge, but after reading mixed reviews about the newer ones not being as fine I am not really sure. I was wondering if anyone has tried the new ones and what their take is on them and also if anyone has a good recommendation for a good pocket stone would be appreciated. Doesn't have to be anything really high grit since I am not going to shave my face with them. About 1500 is my limit on my pocket knives.

A good choice would be the Spyderco Doublestuff 303MF. It has medium and fine grits and can sharpen knives very well. You shouldn't need a diamond stone unless you damage the blade or get it extremely dull but even the the medium side of the Doublestuff will fix a real dull blade, just might take a little longer than say a diamond one. If you keep the blade touched up using the fine side, the dull blade issue shouldn't arise anyway!

I was looking at that one also. I was thinking about the diamond side for damage or it the edge happens to get really dull which doesn't really happen all that often, but just in case if does. Will have to take a closer look at the double stuff.

DMT makes diamond cards, 325, 600, 1200 grits that will fit in a wallet,,, I carry the 600 on me. You can glue a rubber pad(inner tube) to the back of it, should you want to place it on a table to use & not slip or move around.

Actually the type of system I used to refresh a blade , depends on the knife itself.

I have a Fallkniven DC3 Diamond/Ceramic i got as part of a little firesteel, hone, belt pouch combo. I have only had it about a week but after watching a few videos it seems the DC4 is more popular than the DC3.
It seems like its a pretty good piece of kit but only having it for such a short period i aint field tested it myself yet.
Looking at amazon uk it comes in cheaper than the spydi doublestuff but both are very solid manufacturers and probably both have their own pros and cons.

I've been using a Fallkniven DC4 for maybe 4-5 years now.

The ceramic side came from the maker with rather rough grooves. I like it much better after lapping the grooves off. The diamond side is ~25 microns/~600 mesh in DMT terms.

To my surprise, it always seems to find it's way into a pack when backpacking/hiking or canoeing.

It hasn't completely replaced the 4" DMT (600 mesh) that I've been carrying for decades in my back pocket. If you like a knife edge finer than 600 mesh, the ceramic side will do it.
