Default Kitchen knife in Wootz, half integral, with ammoth molar and mammoth ivory handle

I tend to just add stuff to my 'work in progress' thread but I feel this one deserves its ow thread. It is a half integral wootz kitchen knife. 8" chef. I prefer this design for kitchen knives. It is more work to forge the transition into the handle like this, but the upside is that there are no seams at all. I got tips for the handle construction from Gunther Lobach from Scorpiodesign.

The wootz was from an ingot smelted by Krzysztof Rusek. It was a pleasure to work with. The pattern on this blade came out nicely. The bolster material is stabilized mammoth molar from Mermaid Supplies. And the handle is mammoth tusk, stabilized with colored casting resin.

The reason I am so proud of this knife is that this is the first time I made a kitchen knife that really turned out the way that I wanted it to turn out. From handle to bolster transition to etching. If I could have 1 kitchen knife to show to someone and say 'this is what I do' then it would be this one. I put off etching it for a while because of apprehension at whether the pattern would reveal properly or not. But today was the day, and I am happy.

My wife would love to get her mitts on that. She could use it to pry open some cans or jars.

    Very nice work Bruno.

Very nice. I appreciate that it looks quite nice but it also looks very much functional based on its shape. Often times the artist takes over and forgets that it needs to maintain a functional design.

"The pattern on the blade came out nicely" I got a feeling it came out better than "nicely"

Everything about it is gorgeous, almost too beautiful to use. I've always been so impressed with your work, but this one is about as good as it gets. Congratulations.

That is a beautiful knife! I couldn't add anymore than what has been already said!
