Most of what I do is razors, but from time to time I like making some high end kitchen knives.
This is one that I finished just yesterday, and which I think is the most beuatiful knife I've ever made.
The steel is a damascus I made myself with a LOT of intermediate steps and manipulations Basically I turned 3 pounds of steel into a half pound blade blank. The handle is Narwhal tusk which is the most beautiful handle material I've ever used.

The handle is spectacular. How do you source a material like narwhale tusk?

Usually I see him at the Gembloux knife show and I pick up everything I want to buy to get a detailed feel. It goes beyond simple measurements. I want to get an understanding of what exactly I want to do with it because material like this costs a lot.
I used to think mammoth was expensive. Now I think mammoth is cheap. Narwhal is hideously expensive.
My friend sources his material from inuit which is the only way to get it legit.
You should see my storage cupboard. There's meteorite, Tamahagane from various smelters incl. Wayne Portratz, Wootz from Ric Furrer and Alfred Pendray, Damascus from a bunch of people, whole ingots, fossil bones, mammoth bark, narwhal, walrus, oosik, .... Damascus is less important because I make it myself these days.Quote:
