I'd describe myself as a practical man, I work as a mechanic and do the usual things, motorcycling, gardening, some shooting, equipment repairs etc.
I occasionaly carry a small Swiss Army knife and keep a Leatherman in the glove box of the car.
For most jobs, knives aren't as good as scissors, shears or saws.
The good old Stanley knife is the one that gets most use in the workshop.
Multi-tools tend to be almost useless for most practical work, though maybe they are slightly better than the toy toolkit that comes with your new Japanese motorcycle.
The most useful cutting tool to carry is probably a really strong pair of paramedic type scissors.
