EDC Knife

My Benchmade 211 Snody Activator came on monday, i love her!! It feels super strong and reliable!

It came sharp enough to shave hairs on my arm, but it wasnt amazing. So i put a better edge on it with my shaptons, its now super sharp!!! The sheath is a bit large to conceal, so i have a sheet of kydex coming in the mail. I plan to make a new sheath for it, so something like a neck or boot sheath. Or even a sheath to keep it on the inside of my pants. Ill post the results of the sheath on the thread when its made :D. The sheet will come in about a week and a half :D.

Any advice on working with kydex?

I always carry an Emerson folding tactical with a Tanto shaped smooth blade, no serration. I have been carrying this same knife for a number of years now. I usually carry it clipped inside my waistband, and a small folding Boker or Hen and Rooster in my pocket. My grandfather was a knife collector and I've been hooked on them since I was very young.

Although I'm new to straight-razor shaving and this forum, I have really enjoyed it and it seems like a logical, or should I say justifiable, way to collect more blades.

My every day carry knife is a hawk bill folding utility knife ,it is an 50s version of the elevtritions knife looks like any other single blade pocket knife

I Usually carry my Kershaw Scallion. It's a limited edition but I don't know how limited. I've only seen three of them, And they where the three I bought. One for my Father, One for my Father in law and of corse one for myself as Fathers day gifts about six years ago, Although I cheated a little since I was quite a few years from being a father at the time:).

As for Kydex, nope. Haven't worked with it yet. There's some tutorials on the web though. Google is your friend for that. I still have too much leather lying around to be thinking about Kydex.

I have used Kydex for other purposes. For shaping it I placed it in the oven at 250 degrees for about 5 to 10 minutes (depending on the size of the piece ) and then would place it over the form I wanted and then tied into place with fabric strips. I would then let it cool completely and see if there was any issues I could find. If there was back in the oven it went to be reshaped either with a tighter tie to the form or a small rawhide mallet to pound it into the finished shape.

For years, a green Benchmade Osborn tactical. Very tough steel that has never chipped under hard use. Hard to sharpen, though.

It's interesting to see what knives people carry. I'm interested in what people carry and use them for, outside of say, hunting or boating.
I'd describe myself as a practical man, I work as a mechanic and do the usual things, motorcycling, gardening, some shooting, equipment repairs etc.
I occasionaly carry a small Swiss Army knife and keep a Leatherman in the glove box of the car.
For most jobs, knives aren't as good as scissors, shears or saws.
The good old Stanley knife is the one that gets most use in the workshop.
Multi-tools tend to be almost useless for most practical work,though maybe they are slightly better than the toy toolkit that comes with your new Japanese motorcycle.
The most useful cutting tool to carry is probably a really strong pair of paramedic type scissors.

Speaking of scissors I find these electrician scissors one of my handiest tools. it'll cut through copper wire all day long and remain sharp enough to cut paper without a problem.
