Finished my first knife

This has been complete for a while, but I've been honing it up in stages because some mistakes I made on the bevel meant a section of the heel end was not quite as it should have been. Every time I got fed up with it I put it down for a while.

Anyway, it's finished now and I'm pleased to say it's extremely sharp!

Specs are:
O1 tool steel, 3mm thick at the spine
Orange G10 scales
5mm Brass washers
Overall length approx 180mm
Blade length approx 90mm
Handle length approx 90mm

And here are some pictures, hope you like it. Really worth while doing one of these if you have a bit of time. It does take time, but it's not really difficult, especially if you send it out to be heat treated like I did. Also I didn't use any power tools to shape the metal, so if you have an angle grinder that would considerably cut down the time required.

That is really fine looking knife. The shape of the blade and the handle matches nicely together. Did you count your work hours?

In terms of hours, I would say about 8 to 10. The most difficult part was filing out the bevel. It took me a while to get it more or less right.

It is different. I've never seen anything like it any way.

I really don't know where to start with sheath making though! I think I'm going to find an old leather belt and go from there, easier than starting from scratch and I can always make another if I'm not happy.

That is a very cool knife, it looks like it will get the job done. It is satisfying to use a self-made tool.

Thank you. It was a simple idea but I think it came off quite nicely.

I'm not 100% but I reckon some where in the region of 8 to 10 hours.

As far as use, I think I will use it mostly when I'm camping, or for duties which a folding knife is less than ideal for. For example, I collect kindling for the fire and strip all the damp bark off it, I usually use which ever pocket knife is on me at the time but this will probably replace that role.

What I really need to do is make or get a sheath for it.

Edit: the handle material is called G10, it's very tough, and the stuff I got is textured to increase grip. It's good stuff. The only trouble with having it in orange is that the depressions in the material pick up dirt like no ones business, it's a PITA to keep clean.
