I nearly posted that I was expecting the last word to be arms rather than branches, but thought jchad might think I was casting aspersions on him.

"Taliwacker",,,,Attachment 149931,,,,sorry Stefan couldn't help it,,,,,,,,,,,,
What is the purpose of the concave indent at the heel of the blade?
Would it bite a firesteel?
I have put such indents, of lesser degree, on a couple of my survival knives to bite firesteel.
A few more

K-bars are great field knives I have several. On this deployment I have been carrying a Gerber 154CM and have been very happy with it. It is a nice companian to my benchmade folder.
Didnt buy it from here but this is the one I am talking about.

One reason for that is also that it allows you to sharpen it properly. Without that, you'd have a part of edge near the bolster where your sharpening stone would not reach properly and you'd end up with a really ugly (and dysfunctional) edge. It doesn't have to be that big, but you need to have a separation between the edge and the bolster or guard for edge maintenance reasons.
I've posted mine before.....bought almost 7 years or so ago. It was part of a special series they were doing and was designed by a Cajun fella(name escapes me). The curve in the blade and drop point was specifically designed for hacking and game skinning . Love my KA-BAR.Attachment 149942
Another Swamp Rat- Ratmandu clipped point, 5" blade.

Stefan,,,if you ever step on the battlefield with all your combat knives, they're gonna take you out with a giant magnet,,,,, :rofl2:
aaaah! I see that this is revived 2 year old thread, but it brings up another of my acquisition disorders...KAD. I have one of a lot of brands although most are folders. I have several Cold steel (including a kitchen knife set) and find them to be strong and sharp, although they are beautiful. My favorite for EDC is a Benchmade McHenry and Williams 710 folder. I also have Bokers, Bucks and several other well known brands.
We like photo's Harold ;)

Like said above, Ka-Bars.
My father has this USN Ka-Bar from the WWII era(not sure on exact date) but the sleek look, the shape, and the balance of the knife is just.. wonderful.

O.K.,,,off topic a little,,,,your knowledgeable in knives,,,so all the edged weapons over the course of history & present,,,you can only have "1" edged weapon,,,what would your choice be??
Short sword ,double edged so that it could be used both for fighting and semi survival applications......didn't know how specific I was supposed to be ?:)
Just a typical Scandinavian type work knife. Carbon steel. The lenght of the blade shoudn't exceed the widht of your palm. No finger guards.
Wait a minute. I do carry such knive every day at work. Occasionally off work too.

Nice BM. Loving the scales. People aren't selling or trading these babies very often. They seem to find permanent homes. So in the meantime I make due with my good ol' BK9. But it ain't even the same ballpark.
Actually, my next custom shop order will be for a tricked out Rodent Solution. I FREAKIN' LOVE those little guys. I have one in black/black paper like the one below (it may be the one below...), nothin' fancy, just a little worker. But I love the handle and ergos on it, and would love to have a tricked out little custom. My all time favorite camp/utility knife those little RS's...

Here's a pair of Busse knives I've bought recently.
Somewhat different in size, but siblings nonetheless:)
The big one is a ASHBM, the small one a Anniversary Mean street.
Sheath on the big one is a lovely dangler from Chuddybear, the smaller is a crappy kydex thingy.
It will be tossed out in exchange for a nice Randall type leather sheath.

don't have a bunch like you guys but my model 18 Randall served me well for 10 months and 15 days in the jungle 43 years ago and its still with me tc
I have always been a huge proponent of "Old School" when it comes to functional knives. For sure, many of what I think of as "Bling Blades" do in fact work well in the real world. Unfortunately a large consortium of cutlery companies have found a big market for any knives with a "Rambo" vibe. Color it black, put some saw teeth on it, etch some ominous para-militaristic graphic on it somewhere ("Molon Labe" has become very popular of late)...voila'. Hot new knife. I have no particular issue with that...it's not my knife.
The Finnish Ranger knife earlier posted is my idea of a near-perfect blade-combat, survival, sporting...it seems to touch all the bases.
Although I own a number of knives, my choice for a "combat' knife would be this.....
Attachment 174707
Randall Model 15. Non standard handle (no finger grooves..I don't like finger grooves). This blade has withstood the test of time and will be handed down to my Grandson so he can still put it to work.
Another less-severe example(s) but fully functional and classic knives are
The timeless Grohmann (Russell) Canadian Belt knife
Attachment 174713
...and the larger, Grohmann Survival knife, maybe the best knife for the money I have EVER used
Attachment 174714
Grohmann knives reflect the essence of the Canadian outdoors. Plain, durable, totally functional. And as far as "style", a Grohmann (Russell) Belt knife is on display at the NY Museum of Modern Art. To quote Mick Dundee, "Now that's a knife!".
Mick Dundee's pocketknife is bigger than that! :) I've posted it before, but this is my favourite knife. I made it myself some years ago now...And it would be more to Dundee's tastes...
Attachment 174750
And my 8.5in blade compared to one with an 11.25" blade gifted to me by my Mate and student of knife-making. Sorry about the poor quality photo. I took these sometime back just as a quick record.
Attachment 174751
Neither are strictly combat knives, but could be put to use as such if it came down to it. I made mine as an all around camp knife. My mate made the other one the way he did, because he knows what he considers to be a short sword, I think of as a decent sized knife. :)

This looks promising/deadly...... dare I say it but, no matter how you slice it, hand to hand is not pretty ever....imagine what it must've been like to be right smack in the heat of an ancient battle with multitudes of weapons meant for hacking, stabbing, cutting, slicing dicing and , "that's right folks,it even makes julienne fries !!
