Combat Knives?
I have been looking around at some of the nicer combat knives and am surprised at the lack of quality especially at the 300 usd range. Ie- Chris Reeve Green Beret sweet looking knife but really brittle.
since I really dont know much about knives I wanted to ask some of you what your suggestions would be.
I was looking at the Cold steel line and though they look nice they seem really heavy and over hyped .
I am going to hong kong tomorrow so I think i will look for a K-bar they seem to be a very well regarded pig sticker.
cheers all .

Ka Bars are always good. I've heard good things about fairbarnes (spelling) but they tend to be too big for everyday carry. So you may check out the "baby" version. I havnt heard anything too good about cold steel. Best of luck.

Thanked: 0You can ask in edcforums.com but the Ka-Bar are the most used in different armies in the world, specially the US Army and USMC.

Shayne,
As field knives, I have used the K-Bar Next Generation and the Boker Applegate Fairburn (Boker offers pocketknives and hunting knives.).
They did the job very well, but not as good as my Fallkniven F1
If you want a 'fighting' type knife, then the Boker Applegate is very nice.
Have fun !
Best regards
Russ

Some years I own a Recon Tanto by Cold Steel. I think it is one of the best I ever bought!

I'd say go with the Ka-Bars. I love them.
I have quite a few of them. If I were to carry one all the time it would be the short one. Just as strong as the larger versions but small and noble for everyday usage.
Here are some pics of my modest collection:Shaving_story on Instagram

Basil you ever carried the Short one on your ankel? I've been debating picking one up for it. But I can't find a ankel sheath for it.
