Thanked: 9Gday from Western Australia
Gday another straight shaver prospect from Oz!
Been reading this forum like crazy on last couple of weeks and have found it immensely useful. Tried my first straight shave today and found it comparable to a cheap disposable single blade. Although I suspect this may be as my beginner set from shave hut isn't shave ready.
Anyhow have purchased a sight unseen from Larry (whipped dog) and 12k hone so hopefully his shave ready will give me something to compare to get the muhle up to scratch. Cheers for stopping by

Thanked: 9Pretty close to Dampier mate, live in town at Karratha. Nice to know not the only one up here going backwards in time with my shaving routine!
And thanks for the advice Bombay but its bit late as had my first shave with it this morning. Managed to get most areas but left upper lip and a lot of the neck for the gillette fusion. Did look for the muhle on the things to avoid and srp approved lists but couldn't find it. Only info i had was manufactured in Germany (good) and cheaper version of Dovo from google. That said i have the day off today so although i couldnt get the HHT this morn after stropping repeatedly. I just gave it a fair crack with bit more pressure on the linen and leather and it has passed on 2/3ds of the blade. Will wait on the cheaper shave ready blade from Larry to compare before i go crazy honing it though.

ah my mistake, if its made by dovo it will probably be fine. i wouldnt bother at all with the hht, i would use the unseen razor solitary for a few weeks, so you can nail the basics and using the one razor removes a lot of variables.

Thanked: 9Dont quote me on that, just what I have picked up on a google search from a forum. I mostly went with the fact it was manufactured in Solingen Germany and hoped that included the blade not just the scales. Am expecting the shave ready blade from Larry in a week so for now was going to practise stropping and the basics with this one and then use it as a guinea pig to learn honing to get my skills up to scratch while still having a proffesionally honed razor.
One question, it came with a Cyril Walter strop with linen backing, i have worn this in partially as suggested in the wiki with condition and a bottle. I get very little resistance from the linen but the leather feels good (in my 1 hours experience), is this normal for the linen?

There isn't much in K town in the way of shaving gear is there? The chemist in the shopping centre sells a few aftershaves and witchhazel when they havent run out, and the supermarket sells Palmolive soap or fauldings cream.
Do you know of anywhere else, should I have a shaving emergency?

Thanked: 9Gday Ed,
Couldn't help you much at this time as I have only just converted over to the higher end shaving products in the last 1-2 weeks with what i got from Shaverhut.com.au Seeing how they have fairly quick and free shipping over $40 will probably stick with them as ordering stuff in up here gives the salesguy the (must work for Rio Tinto so i will charge extra syndrome). I try and stick local or at least Aussie sites where i can so if you have any recommendations of knowledgable staff and good prices that would be great.
Also have gone back to cartridge for now until i get the Shave ready from Larry. 2nd shave with the Muhle was horrible did 1 pass. Re stropped. tried again and was just very unpleasant regardless of angle.
