Just bought all my straight razor stuff can't wait till it gets here. My gf thinks I will cut my jugular but I think its worth the risk http://badgerandblade.com/vb/images/..._guys/wink.gif. I bought a simpsons silver tip badger brush and a dovo stainless steel ebony straight razor and a strop from SRD.
Go cautiously into that bristle beard and welcome to SRP. Helpful hint: Make sure you are able to fully concentrate on where the blade is at all times and the angle of the blade also. Don't try to do a complete shave the first time if you are running into problem areas. Many SRP members, myself included, on occasion rely on a DE or SE to finish off odd places on the face. I use a DE about every week and a half for a complete shave due to other skin problems. And remember, in the SRP, asking is a way of life if you need answers and reading through the wiki doesn't answer everything. We all like to chip in with our own perspectives on any question.

My gf thought the same thing, but here I am four years later with intact jugular!! lol!!
If you can find locals to help you on your way that will be a big plus. If you look in SRP staff under mentors or do a advanced search on the menbers tab for your state/area you should be able to find local help if you need it.

Just keep the stypic pen close by.....we all bleed a little.....if you ain't bleeding ..you ain't shaving !!!!! Oh ..and welcome aboard. Lots of other stuff here too, pipe smoking,fishing,hunting,drinking scotch,food, tea from around the word.....
You got some nice gear and if you go slow and pay attention you won't get more than a kitty scratch now and then. Keep your GF out of the bathroom while shaving. You know how they hate to be wrong :<0)
There is a video somewhere of a feller using a straight for the first time, he didn't know what he was doing, didn't have tge right equipment etc and banged the razor into the video camera while he had it to his throat, but he only needed 4 stitches, the moral of this story is, even an idiot trying really hard can't kill himself inadvertently so if you use some.proper gear (which it sounds like you are), and learn what to do (which it seems you are), don't record your first shave (i assume you wont) then you should be fine.

I'd like to welcome you and offer support. I'm only eagerly awaiting my third shave. Yes shave number 3 coming up. Yeah am I excited. I say go for it and if there is one piece of advice I can give at this early stage is take your time. There ain't no rush. It feels good and makes for a great sense of accomplishment. All the best.
