New to Straight Razor shaving!

Hi, I'm Greg from Mahopac, NY.

I decided to learn to use a straight razor for a few reasons. Less expensive than cartridges, environmentally better ect. But after reading around the forums here, I'm also just really excited about getting a really awesome shave!

I'm just starting to accumulate the tools I will need, I would also love to get into restoring razors (it looks like a lot of fun!), but I guess I should take it one step at a time.

I'm looking forward to picking your brains and getting some much needed advice.

You will find members here of all different backgrounds, ages and occupations from all corners of the world and all with a quest for more knowledge about using and maintaining a straight razor!

If you take the time to search, 99.9% of your questions can be found in the Library (WIKI) however feel free to ask us about whatever it is that you are wondering about or having a problem with. It does help if you’ve done some research before hand so it narrows the problem down a bit.

There are several members in the NY area!! I hope the join in! You will find that hands on learning will teach you more in a few hours than watching videos and reading for months!

I'll try to get you in touch with a couple that I know and have had correspondence with!

Welcome To SRP! Restoration is fun and with so many variables involved its easy to keep it interesting. I would concentrate on learning to shave and strop first as str8 razor shaving has a big learning curve. Save the restoration for later.

Read as much as you can and watch plenty of videos on stropping and shaving here on SRP. Check out the 'Helpful Hints' on the SRP homepage, especially Lynn's 'Your First Straight Razor Shave'.
