Just getting back into straight shaving. Picked up a new dovo and got it shave ready. Now to get a good brush. I am a retired truck driver who is into making knives, vintage camp stoves, and primitive skills.

Welcome back.
What stove models do you like?
Welcome...
Hi and welcome!
Welcome, not a lit else to say at this point. :)
Just out of personal curiosity, you say you are getting back to SR, if you don't mind saying, why did you leave. After using an SR for several months, the few times I have been forced to use alternative shavers I have regretted just not skipping a shave that day.
Welcome back to the fold. I know what coming back to straight shaving feels like.
For my part, I put my SRs aside for a few years and have recently gotten back in. Just crazy busy trying to turn a short-term job into more stable employment (successfully, I'm glad to say). It's not that the shave takes longer, I would just put off refreshes longer and longer until I just become accustomed to using the DE all the time. I did get to know my DE well, and still played w/ soaps etc. Good to be back though!
I grew a full beard.
Mostly Swedish brassies. Svea123, 123r, optimus 8r.
Rdug113, I haven't used a Optimus 8r, but have looked at getting one more than once during the last 40 years of climbing, hiking and hanging out in wonderful places with great people. Being from the Seattle area I started using the MSR XGK stoves in the 1970's. Never let me down and the burner roar is a comforting sound during those longer winter nights. PM me if you have an 8r for sale/trade.
Rdug113, Did you pick up a new brush? How is the new straight razor working out?
I almost bought a Svea 123 instead of my Optimus Nova @ 10 years ago.
addition: I just looked up the 8r. I saw one at an antique store in Dec. I had guessed it was a Primus or Optimus; the price was beyond my budget.
The razor is fantastic, will get a brush in the next week or so. Just shaving the neck till spring then going back to just the handlebar. No extra 8r, just picked up a taykit coil stove. I have wanted one of them for awhile. Paid more than I should have but really impressed with it for my morning coffee.
Leatherstockings, the 8r is a great little stove. Prices have really shot up on them. I still check for them on that auction site and can't believe what they go for now.
