returning to a straight after 50+ years...........
Hello everybody:
Shaved with a straight while I was in college. Gave it up when I started graduate school, just didn't have the time, plus Gilette came out with their super blue blades, which were sharper than I could get a straight. Saw the most recent Bond movie and recalled how much fun it was. When I bought my first straight in '59 I got a Dubl Duck razor, a strop and a two sided barber's hone, which you used with lather as lubricant. Over the years I've learned to sharpen both metal working and wood working tools, so I was right at home buying three new waterstones, diamond slurry, a new Dovo and a nice used Shumate razor plus a new Star Shaving strop. Still working out honing technique, not quite there to get a good shave, but I was set back by a defective Norton 4k/8k. Think all will be well when the replacement arrives and I have a good 4k hone. Having lots of fun so far. http://straightrazorpalace.com/images/icons/icon12.png
