Wink returning to a straight after 50+ years...........

    Hello everybody:

Shaved with a straight while I was in college. Gave it up when I started graduate school, just didn't have the time, plus Gilette came out with their super blue blades, which were sharper than I could get a straight. Saw the most recent Bond movie and recalled how much fun it was. When I bought my first straight in '59 I got a Dubl Duck razor, a strop and a two sided barber's hone, which you used with lather as lubricant. Over the years I've learned to sharpen both metal working and wood working tools, so I was right at home buying three new waterstones, diamond slurry, a new Dovo and a nice used Shumate razor plus a new Star Shaving strop. Still working out honing technique, not quite there to get a good shave, but I was set back by a defective Norton 4k/8k. Think all will be well when the replacement arrives and I have a good 4k hone. Having lots of fun so far.

Since you're getting back in the saddle again, there's lots of great information for any fine tuning you may need.

    Cheers!

Thanks, Phrank. I've already been using the info here. Like your avatar, my training being in physics.

I hope you still have that Double Duck. I think the going price for one is a littler higher than when you first bought it.

I don't. My ex-wife may have custody of it, but I don't want it badly enough to stir that hornets nest. I do know what has happened to the price, and I am tempted by the one in the classifieds. The ones on e-Bay are going for insane prices. I can't believe that they are really any better than any other Solingen product, but the cosmetics must be really valuable to some.

    Welcome, DryFly!

Sorry to hear about the DoublDuk, but sounds like you're definitely heading in the right direction with the Dovo and Shumate and already know quite a bit.

I'll enjoy hearing of your experiences.

    Kind Regards,

    Siguy

    Hi Walter:

Have never seen even a single episode of Star Wars. I did, however, work on the anti-missile system that came to be known as "Star Wars" while it was in it's infancy, 'bout '67-'68.

Welcome to SRP, DryFly. Imagine what that Dubl Duck razor is worth now. Big bucks!

Thanks, Siguy and Speedster. I would dearly love to have that Dubl Duck, but the price I am willing to pay to avoid further dealings with ex is very high indeed. Besides, she probably let it rust!
