Default Finally back to the DE SR; now for the Straight!

My first shave was with my Dad’s Gillette Tech in 1958. I used Gillette Adjustables and Schick Injectors exclusively until the 1980s, when I allowed the ubiquitous disposables to take over my life.

This year I bought a Merkur 1904 Classic and re-discovered what I had forgotten: How to shave! The addition of a ‘mint’ 1946 Gillette Tech has added to my rediscovery.

I used to watch my grandfather strop his straight razor and shave, but I never attempted the art. I had an old Italian (what other kind would I trust!) barber give me a straight razor shave in the 1970s, but that’s as close (pun intended) as I got.

Now I’ve acquired a vintage Genco Gold Seal Jr., and I’m having it professionally made shave-ready. I’ve also ordered a new Gold Dollar. I expect to take my first 'Straight' solo flight sometime next week.

I figure if it’s good enough for John Wayne (and Grandpop) it should be good enough for me.

Welcome to SRP! Well, it sounds like you joined up in the nick of time. Read the links on the main page about your first straight razor shave, and I'm sure you'll do fine. Have fun!

Hi and welcome. Check out the library for all the starter info and the other basics of Sr shaving. Any questions feel free to ask. Is the gold dollar meant for shaving or just practice. If for shaving you will need to get a bit of work done on it first. Good luck
My wife calls me......... Can you just use Ed
