Hello from Minnesota!!!
First of all I would like to say hi to everyone. Glad to join this great group of guys. I have always wanted to learn the ART of the straight shave. Never thought it was an option as I shave every day (military) and never thought I would have the time. I have been doing some research for about 2 weeks on what to buy, the do’s and don’ts and watching a lot of how to videos. I purchased a DOVO 5/8” Best Quality Full Hollow. Seems like a great razor. I did my first shave this morning. Might sound a little weird but was so excited to use it I got up an hour early just to try it out. Kind of hard to shave when you have a huge grin on your face the whole time. Only did my sideburns and cheeks. Worked great, no knick. I think I will stick with those areas till I feel more comfortable and steady with my left hand. Glad to have found this site with so much expertise. Take care ya’ll.

Greets!
Ex long time military guy here (Army and Navy). In the military we tend to think of shaving as a necessary chore. The joy of the straight shave comes from realizing we can turn that chore into a brief few moments of mind clearing self-indulgence.
Congrats on making the leap!

Hi and welcome. Any questions feel free to ask

If you are in Central Minnesota, then you are near the Twin Cities, and so you are in luck. If you would like personal instruction, RandyDance is the guy for you. He has helped a lot of beginners and nothing gives you a great start like help in person. I'm in Rochester, so you can get hold of me as well if your definition of "central" is a bit off!

Utopian said it and there a bunch of guys in MN and a couple up above Anoka and at least one in Duluth. RandyDancer may be able to put you in touch with a person nearer to you.

Welcome. Sounds like you're taken care of here. Just an FYI There are quite a few straight razor users in the duluth area. A few are members here at SRP.
