    Default Long Time Coming

Hello everyone. I have been thinking about going straight for a few years now. Since 1974 I've used a Schick adjustable single edge injector razor. Blades are getting harder to come by and start off being on the dull side right from the beginning. I hope an old dog can learn new tricks, I'll be 61 this month and I would love to perfect this skill of shaving with a straight razor. I will probably buy new unless someone makes me an offer I can't refuse. Anyway this is an incredible sight. So much information and a lot of great people helping other people. I hope I can get some good referrals on equipment because I'm ready to buy and get started.
    Thanks so much,

Well if you've been wet shaving for a while, that'll make things easier for sure!

As for equipment - a theoretical budget might help us know which way to point you.

Congrats on thinking about taking the plunge, and welcome to SRP!

Thanks so much. I would like to keep around $150 for razor and strop but I'm flexible.

welcome, check out straightrazordesigns for an economical "kit" of quality shave ready razor and strop. otherwise there are many vintage razors for the offing on eBay that various sellers have made shave ready. find a reputable seller, and you are likely to get into a quality razor for less than new.

Butch with that kind of budget you can get a nice shave ready starter kit. I got my first straight (vintage) restored honed an ready razor an a new paddle style strop for a good bit under $100. There are some great vendors on here. Look in the classifieds also. To many good people on here willing to help to call them all out. But the one that helped me with my initial purchase an start was gssixgun (glen)..... Good luck an welcome.

Thanks everyone. I think this is going to be an excellent experience. I'll start looking and see what I come up with.

    Welcome in Butch,
one great thing about this community is it extends out into the real world.
You have a bit of wiggle room to get set up, if you pick up the phone and call SRD, Vintage Blades LLC etc.
you can speak with a live person who has some background with the use of straights.
Another advantage to these two in particular is they offer professionally honed blades not factory shave ready edges which makes a world of difference.

    Again glad to have you.

    Regards
    Pat
