Greetings from South Carolina, USA
Specifically, Easley, SC near Clemson University.
Several months ago, on a whim, I picked up my father's Durham Duplex shavette and gave it try. Except for a few spots that I couldn't get at, it was the best shave I had ever had. And I was hooked...
A few months later I purchased my first straight razor - an "Art of Shaving" Double Hollow Solingen . It's not the fanciest razor, but after honing it from their "shave ready" state (hah), it works extremely well and holds a nice edge. I expect I'll upgrade to Dovo next year.
(Before a senior member screams about a newbie honing a brand new blade - I've been honing wood carving knives, chisels, and gouges for a long time. New to a SR, old hat to honing and paddle stropping)
I decided to join here because just about every question I googled either sent me to these forums or to some other site that referenced straightrazorplace. I gave up searching the internet and just started reading this site and watching Lynn Abrams videos on youtube. Awesome job. Lynn should set up a "contribute" box for people to just send him money for putting his knowledge out there.
I'm still working on a few trouble spots on my neck, but each time I get a few more hairs and I hope that one day soon my Gilette fusion will be gathering dust instead of being used for clean up.
