Greetings from South Carolina, USA
Specifically, Easley, SC near Clemson University.
Several months ago, on a whim, I picked up my father's Durham Duplex shavette and gave it try. Except for a few spots that I couldn't get at, it was the best shave I had ever had. And I was hooked...
A few months later I purchased my first straight razor - an "Art of Shaving" Double Hollow Solingen . It's not the fanciest razor, but after honing it from their "shave ready" state (hah), it works extremely well and holds a nice edge. I expect I'll upgrade to Dovo next year.
(Before a senior member screams about a newbie honing a brand new blade - I've been honing wood carving knives, chisels, and gouges for a long time. New to a SR, old hat to honing and paddle stropping)
I decided to join here because just about every question I googled either sent me to these forums or to some other site that referenced straightrazorplace. I gave up searching the internet and just started reading this site and watching Lynn Abrams videos on youtube. Awesome job. Lynn should set up a "contribute" box for people to just send him money for putting his knowledge out there.
I'm still working on a few trouble spots on my neck, but each time I get a few more hairs and I hope that one day soon my Gilette fusion will be gathering dust instead of being used for clean up.Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

Thanked: 44Welcome Neighbor to SRP.
The videos are a must watch for learning the skills for honing razors and more. Be prepared for your new addiction. It seems that you always find another razor you cannot live without.Amateurs built the ark. Professionals built the Titanic!

Thank you for all of the welcomes.
I agree that the videos are a must watch and some of them I've watched about 5 times in a row.
Especially the stropping one. Switching to a hanging strop from my bench strop for chisels is proving to be interesting.
And I have confirmed that you can nick a strop practicing with a butter knife. :-o At least it wasn't a nice strop.
I plan on ordering a nicer one from SRD once I get wrist under control, until then I'm using a paddle strop design that I'm used to.
I don't know if I'm looking forward to another addiction or not, but I could easily see myself buying at least twelve razors. I just hope that 20 years from now I don't have more razors than the 100 (or so) wood chisels I have now. Addiction prone...nah!Some people never go crazy.
