Thanked: 0Salutations from the Central Carolina region.
Hello, my name is Dane. I am new to this forum but not to wet shaving. Decided to join because I am getting more and more into the straight razor side of shaving. I currently have two Dovo razors and one shavette style barbers razor. I also have a Edwin Jagger DE87 safety razor which has seen my face for years. I know there are a few honemeisters here, and I want to start honing my own razors so I am going to consume as much knowledge on the subject as I can. I currently have a few Arkansas hones, a Norton combo set, and a DMT extra fine plate.
I live and work in Scotland County NC. I have been doing industrial maintenance at a textile manufacturing plant for the past three years. Now I do sewing machine repair and parts supply for the same company. It is mainly the huge sewing machines used for leather and webbing slings. Well, let me get off my horse and see what anyone has to ask or say. Questions are welcome, I hope to become a brother to you all.

Welcome to SRP.
Sounds like you are well set for this journey.
If I were to offer up just one piece of advice it would be to try to join in on a meet-up.
One can really shave off weeks, if not months, of frustration by learning from the seasoned honers out there
Good luck, and feel free to ask away.
That's what we are here for!Bjoernar
Um, all of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years....

Welcome to SRP, Dane! Sounds like you have a game plan. I would also second Birnando's advice to attend a local meet-up. That's the best way to pick up on honing. Good luck!

Thanked: 0Thanks guys, I'll check and see if there are any meets nearby. Charlotte is only 100 miles from where I love and there is a The Art of Shaving in one of the malls so I know there are some straight shavers around.

Hello and welcome to SRP!
There is a ton of information in the Library and lots of good honing videos.
I come to the Charlotte area for a weekend every month to visit family, if you can't find anyone more local. Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead - Charles Bukowski

Thanked: 0Thanks guys, I will definitely be checking out the library and threads for info. I'm about two hours from Raleigh, Wilmington, Columbia, Charlotte, Myrtle Beach, so there should be quite a few people within a short distance. I'm actually quite good at honing knives and tools, but I know from what little reading I've done this far that my experience with those will be of no use with razors. My practice honing razor is a Dovo Pearlex and my benchmark razor is a Dovo Diamant honed by West Coast. I cut a few of my friends hair and use my shavette on them. I've shaved my face with it a few times but I much prefer the Diamant. I still love my EJ DE87 with A Merkur blade, so my Diamant doesn't get used to the point of needing a touch up. I still may send I to someone in the near future to have them hone it and see how I like it. Gotta have a good benchmark to test against. Which reminds me..... I need more razors haha.
Thanks again*****
