And this is what i mean about using things of quality. People dont realize that there ae better options out there for certain things that they are lead to believe are only available "cheap". Such as high quality yoyos that blow the crap you get at the dollar store away. Straight razors as opposed to cartridges. quality pens vs the crappy bics that you get 20 for $2. glass straws vs plastic bendy straws. the list goes on and on.
There is a certain satisfaction inusing these things in your every day life.
The key to all of those things you mention is that they all take maintenance. In a rushed world, being able to use, discard, and move on to the next in a timely manor, is what we are selling. It permeates all of society. There is something to be said for a man who seeks out quality, no matter how rich, and is willing to care for those things he's invested in.
Welcome back Bazunka.
I hear you guys loud and clear.
The situation you guys refer to seemed to me to start with the Bic butane lighter that replaced the old standby Zippo.
The Bic didn't leak in your pocket and it didn't need fluid replaced constantly and an occasional flint, but the sentimental attachment was lost. Also I even mised snaping the old Zippo to open it.
No goofy little tricks that I remember with the Bic.
About the same time period the potatoe peeler almost became extinct.
Who, except a few of the hardcore, wanted to peel a spud when potatoes became available in boxes, bags, and pouches, already peeled and ready to cook.
..... Geez, I could go on and on,
I must be really really old!
oh yes zippos....they are wonderful
Hi and welcome back. When I used to smoke I would go to my collection of old or antique lighters choose 1 for the day fill it up and go. Do miss using them now they just sit in a draw. Probably keep them till I'm dead. To much sentimental value to most of them.
