Greeting, I decided I'd introduce myself. My name is Brian and I like in the great state of Texas. I've been shaving with a DE razor for about 2 years. Prior to that I was ruining my face with an electric razor. I've always been fascinated with older technology, I still shoot films and have a darkroom in my house. I've always wanted to try and shave with a straight razor. About 4 weeks ago I bought a strop and a restored razor. The first shave was okay but a couple or nicks and some razor burn. No problem as I really liked the overall experience. Unfortunately with my 6th shave I wasn't being careful and dropped the razor in the sink. And yes I now have 2 small chips in the blade. No worries as I will get it honed. I didn't have a backup so I bought a decent one on another forum that was shave ready. This razor was very comfortable compared to the first one and I liked the fact is was a 6/8 compared to a 5/8. Well as luck would have it I wasn't paying attention and relaxed my hand and sliced the side of my face. Not a deep cut but it really bleed. Trying to deal with the blood I put my razor in the cabinet not closing it all the way as it was still a little wet and it fell into the sink. Ugh! A little chip on the blade but enough to make a mark on the strop. So now I have 2 razors that need to be honed and I'm currently back to shaving with a DE. I'm not sure SE shaving is for me but I'm not giving up just yet. I realized I need to be more careful with the razor as it is a delicate piece of equipment. Once the razors are honed and working again hopefully I can continue to enjoy shaving with them.
