Default Hi Ian from Newport South Wales

Hi my name is Ian from the UK, I was always a bit worried about taking an open blade to my face, but a friend bought a shavet, explained how easy it was to use, so I got one. 3 months in and I have bought a straight cut Razor an A.P. Donovan. I thought it was very sharp so I stropped it and used it. It is making noises like it may be shaving me as I draw it down my face, but it is not taking any hair off. Hope I don't sound dumb, but does any one have any idea what I am doing wrong. Answers on a post card please ..... I am not going to give up but I really want to get this thing working properly. I haven't even managed to draw blood

Good idea would be to get it pro honed so you have a benchmark to go by that way at least you can rule out the razor ,, then it comes down to technique , prep and experience which takes a little while to get ,, read a lot in the library about starting out , and go slow , take small steps then it will come together ,, really take the time to learn the stropping , more razors are dulled in stropping than just about any thing else ,, once you have a well honed razor and your stropping is good ,, you can maintain an edge for quite a while. Good luck. Tc

Not very simple, but it is worth the time. Lot's of information in the Library. It gets to be a comforting ritual.

Thank's Mike, I will take a look at the library. I can see there is more to it than meets the eye.

Hello and welcome to the forum. You might want to PM member celticcrusader as I believe he is also in Wales and see if he can help.
