Good vid Steve, equally applicable to those of us who ride pedal bikes.
I would also say that the way some guys ride their bikes isn't exactly safe or responsible either though.
Nice post Steve. It's a huge deal in the military right now. I think we as a whole lose more Sailors, Marines, Airmen and Coast Guard to motorcycles than we do from war. We have to take a yearly safety course to ride.

That's good. It's a great idea to take a course to maintain safety! There are more motorcycles on the roads these days to save on fuel consumption. My biggest complaint are people using their cell phones while driving!Quote:

You didn't say anything wrong Ed. To me it doesn't matter whether it has a motor or pedals, there are idiots out there that just don't have the regard or respect for those who do ride two wheels. I mostly seek for people on motorcycles but after thinking of what you said, some people, especially in cars, always have the excuse like, "oh, I didn't see him" or some kind of excuse. Most of the time when people in cars or trucks run a biker or a cyclist off the road & they go down, the person that caused it just keeps going so that they aren't responsible for any injuries or damages! They can see that a person has gone down & can't or won't get up fast enough to catch them. I've gone down before when that happened , they just keep going because it is expensive to fix damages, especially when one is injured.Quote:

Drive a car and nothing against bikers. Once could have hurt one though, driving in the rain and slightly foggy. Wanted to change lane, looked in my blind spot, saw a black spot about shoulder height, looked again and as went between two buildings saw a biker on a grey bike, in a grey leather suit with no lights on. Lights and maybe a touch of bright colour would have been a bit more intelligent. Only one black spot about four inch diameter on his shoulder. Some people are just foolish.
p.s. have seen many more idiots in cars than on bikes so far though.
Good post engine46 and glad you survived your accident. I used to ride myself until the fear of getting killed by reckless drivers overcame the joy of riding. Survived 3 accidents myself over the years, first one was my own fault, other two were not and that is when I decided to hang it up. And I do not believe in people not being able to see motorcycles as I had countless near misses when vehicles turned or pulled out in front of me and even waved at me as they were doing it. This video clearly shows the issue of a driver being distracted and not paying attention which becomes a hazard not only to motorcycles but to all vehicles as well as bicycles and pedestrians. So, regardless of type of vehicle, avoid distractions and pay attention to what you are doing. As stated in the video, the victim could be someone's parent, child or sibling, or just someone that somebody depends on. Again, glad you were able to live to ride another day and be safe.
Yes, sorry to hear about your accident and I'm glad to hear you didn't get banged up too badly.
What's the saying a local cop on TV here say's to motorcycle, bicycle riders and pedestrians - "You may have the right of way, but you don't have the right of weight." Which means for everyone to be aware.
From the other side of the coin, I came close to smacking a motorcycle rider in the head a couple of years ago, when he cut between the parked cars on the right hand side, darted in front of me and came to a sudden stop to make a left hand turn, almost ran him over, if I hadn't of counter steered to the right, I would have piled right into the back of him at almost 40km an hour.
I rode for a couple years in Japan while stationed there. Came home and bought a bike; One ride in San Diego Calif. and I sold it; and there were no cell phones back then.
Lack of training of drivers is the biggest hassle a biker gets.
When driving I see them and also signal that I see them. Gives them some freedom to do what they wish.

No, luckily, no bone damages at this time but I am not going to sign any release forms until I see it in writing that if for some reason later on down the road, if I suffer from anything that the accident may have caused, that I am covered by the other guys insurance. It could be 10 years from now that it is proven I have a condition due to the accident, his insurance will pay for it!!! I already have metal in my back from having back surgery in the past.Quote:

]I rode to Milwaukee in 2008 for Harley-Davidsons 105th Anniversary Celebration & on my way home going through Arkansas, hurricane Gustav had moved north into that state & by then it was pouring rain but I had my rain gear on & when truckers were coming up, they were way back there & would change lanes & passed but then when they got back over, they made sure they were way ahead of me, opposite people in cars & small trucks. They would pull right up on my ass & then pass & pull right in front of me so the truckers were showing great respect for a biker riding all alone on the busy interstate. Many truck drivers are bikers & they have respect unlike other people! I have nothing against truckers except for one who totaled my small pickup in 2007 after he made a right turn in front of me as I was in the far right lane. He was turning into IHOP!!! It was a good thing I wasn't on my bike that day or I wouldn't be here!Quote:
