Welcome to the forum! Lots of good folks here who like to help. I would recommend two things. Start reading Straight Razor Place Library - Straight Razor Place Library and look for a razor in the site classifieds here Main Index - Straight Razor Place Classifieds
Site members are a safe bet for finding a quality razor. You can find something from $50 on up. Let us know how it goes and welcome!
Hello, n8mon. Welcome to SRP!
Are you wanting to find a vintage or new razor? I suggest checking out the classifieds here at SRP if you want a vintage razor. If new check out the vendors that advertise here on the forum.

Thanks guys, I should have looked around the forum before asking, what I am finding, such a loaded question.
Tell us your budget. Do you want a nice used razor or a new one. Just be sure it arrives with a "Real Shave Ready Edge. If you purchase a new Razor from Straight Razor Designs, you will receive a razor with a "Real Shaving Edge" and treated with impeccable customer service.
A nice used razor purchased from an SRP member on the For Sale Forum will also come with a nice shaving edge.
Is it safe to use a vintage razor, I found a couple at some second hand stores locally
Ahhhhh beat two of them to the draw this time,,,,, Attachment 191697
What sort of budget do you have?
aside from a razor you will need a few other items such as a strop, some soap and a brush as a minimum. There are all the extras like pre/post shave aftershaves etc too.
You can get set up for about $100 but it will limit your options.
Found a wade and butcher. Are they quality
I would not purchase my first razor from Ebay or an antique store. Unless you know what to look for it very easy to over pay or purchase a razor of inferior quality. A razor purchased this way will need to be rehoned by someone who knows how to properly sharpen a S.R. This could add an extra expense on top of your razor purchase. Probably a honing charge plus paying for shipping in both directions.
a lot of us use nothing but vintage razors, they are usually of good quality and can be easily sterilized, however unless you know what to look for it's easy to get one that's unusable. plus it would have to be sent out to be honed. if you can post a picture it would help us tell you if it is usable and a good razor.
Oh yeah, welcome to SRP!

Not sure if this is the best photo. I took it so I could research the name not condition.
I know I would not hold that razor to my face in it's current condition. At the very least you are looking at some restoring and honing....probably not a great place to start. They are nice razors though...in the correct condition.
If the price is right though it might be a nice project for later or maybe one of the guys on here will take it on for you.
That makes sense. How hard is it to restore
That is pretty ratty looking. Someone with restoration skills could probably do something with it, but i certainly wouldn't buy it as a first razor.
Have you looked at the forum classifieds? The razors sold by members are a safer bet, if you need any further info than that which is posted in the advert just shoot them a PM.
I have yet to take on a restore but I hope to some day. Someone else may speak to it but the really MAIN BIG HUGE THING here is the razor has to be SHARP....SHAVE READY SHARP! That is so important for you to have a positive experience!!! It is going to be a steep learning curve with a shave ready razor....and remember to check with your friends here on what you buy that is shave ready.....every razor on the internet totes itself as shave ready.
No. Keep looking!
I just had a quick scroll through and there are a few sub $80 and a few more at $100 or less and as long as they are advertised as shave ready they should be.
I believe that you can get new razors like ralf aust or Dovo for similar money but you need to select a vendor that hones the razor prior to dispatch.
On the question of restoration it looks like it will need a bit of work to my untrained eye, for ideas on how to do restoration work check out the workshop forum, or even start a thread there, you will probably get plenty of advice but i think you would need better photos.
aside from the rust or corrosion on the blade I think the scales may be broken as they look like they have string wrapped around them.
Although wade and butchers have a good reputation there are plenty of lesser known vintage makers that provided very nice razors too.
Generally it's the bigger sized wade and butchers that are more sought after.
Thanks again everybody
Welcome to SRP
Hi and welcome. With a blade with corrosion you can get problems where the razor no longer is capable of holding an edge. Start with something ready to go. There is plenty to learn and plenty of time for antique store once you know what to look for. Good luck.
Welcome to SRP.
Wade and Butcher are very good. You will need to check wear and get it honed if it is not shave ready.
