Thanked: 5Hello from Michigan!
Hi everyone,
My name is Mike and I have been DE shaving for about 3 months or so and decided to give straights a try. I am just seeking my first one to tryout. I did give a shavette one try so far and lets say it could have been better.
I am from Michigan born and lived here all my life, I am 52 now and married for 29 years with two sons. One is 28 years old and the other one is 24 years old. I mainly worked in the Quality Control area all my life in manufacturing places til I got laid off in 2008. Now I am semi-retired but would still like to work at least part time if I could find one. I also used to have my own computer repair/training/consulting business that I did on the side when I was working and full time when I wasn't. I still like to dabble in that and play with other Operating systems and still have some clients have been with me for a long time so they still call me up but I dont do too much of it nowadays! I also was a big time golfer and enjoyed that so much I bought into a golf store for a short time but now I dont get out much at all. I also used to collect and buy/sell/trade of Swiss Army Knives, Leatherman multitools, single blade folders like Spyderco, ZT, Chris Reeve and others. I used to have a bunch of sharpening gear to keep my knives all sharp but since they dont see the use as they did, I moved most of it along to people that will use them!
Now my attention has been shaving! I cant imagine how different DE was from ye ol' cartridge shaves! Unbelievable, like nite and day!
Thx. for letting me ramble and I hope to learn from this site and the members here as time goes by. I look forward to chatting with everyone and discovering/learning things I dont know. Always have the need for knowledge!!
Mike

Thanked: 4826Welcome. If you are looking to buy a straight razor they often sell shave ready in the classifieds here and are typically a fantastic buy. Where ever you choose to buy make sure that your razor is shave ready. When you receive it, it should be ready to shave. There is a lot of information here, and a lot of friendly knowledgeable people. I hope you watch a few videos and go easy on your first shave.
P.S.
Go to a meet when you get a chance. It is full of hands on learning, and there is no better way to learn. It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!
