Practice is one of the keys to good shaves. Taking it slow and dealing with one part of the equation at a time will get you there faster than trying to do all parts of the puzzle at once. Read and watch videos. Ask questions, there are 40,000 members with answers. And above all, adjust your bio to show where you are. That will help us find you a mentor or senior member near you that you can sit down with and have a face-to-face series of sessions. There could be one closer than you think. Also, watch the announcement section on regional meets. A great source of face time and learning.

Welcome!
I'd suggest that you continue your learning as Razorfeld suggested by reading as much as you can here: Beginner's guide to straight razor shaving - Straight Razor Place Library and also by watching videos by Lynn Abrams in particular. You can find them on the site or in YouTube. Lastly, are you sure you have a truly shave-ready razor? If not, I'd send it out to someone in the Member Services section of the forum classifieds: http://straightrazorpalace.com/class...wcat.php?cat=4Just call me Harold

Hi, welcome,
I remember my first straight razor shave, my heart was beating fast (muppet). It was quite successful .
Unlike my first DE shave , there was blood everywhere .

Thanked: 0Thanks Guys,
I found it easier to shave with the dominant hand, but opposite side. I saw that the "First razor shave" article by Lynn recommends dominant hand dominant side.

Thanked: 56I shave entirely with my dominant hand. It's not that difficult. I've been using my dominant hand to shave all my life, so I didn't see much reason to change when I switched to DE and then to straights.

Thanked: 3795I still remember my first straight shave. I never have been so very aware of the pulsing of the blood vessels in my neck! I expected gushing!
